News and updates about the kids

On March 24 there was a 6.8 magnitude quake on the eastern border of Myanmar near Tachileik.  This is a long way from where our children live so no injuries or damage happened.

However, just a few days prior to the quake, a number of our older children left Yangon for Tachileik!  They were there during the earth quake and took the photos you can see below.

One of the pastors who we work with had his house destroyed as you can see below.  But thankfully none of our people were injured.

The AYDC was dedicated on the 8th of January 2011.  This was a wonderful experience for all the Australians present.  But it was also thoroughly enjoyed by the children at the Centre.

Several hundred people from the local area attended the formal dedication, artistic presentation and lunch.  Immediately after the formal dedication, the children put on an hour long presentation of songs and dance.  The many days of practice was clearly evident as we were treated to confident, beautiful and often humourous artistic items.

Click here for photos or check below for videos of this event.  For us it was the perfect conclusion to a wonderful time in Myanmar.

It is hard to catch on film just how much the children enjoy this now annual trek to one of the few water parks in Myanmar.  The video below gives you a hint at the fun the kids have.

The reason we can take the children to parks like this is because of the generous Christmas time donations of our many supporters.  So, on behalf of the kids, thank you!

When I was last in Myanmar I recorded some video footage of the kids wishing all of our supporters a Merry Christmas.  It is quite cute.

We still have lots to do at the orphanage you see in this video.  Check this page for a chart on how we are progressing.

We have recently received news that Aung Ling Hoi has become quite ill with a serious liver complaint.

He has been taken to a local hospiptal which has advised that he needs to be relocated to a larger hospital who can provide additional care.  We understand the hospital and ongoing medicine costs will be in the vicinity of $300.

Although our work is presently underfunded, critical needs such as these are always given priority.  It is a blessing that Aung Ling Hoi is in our care.  The average monthly wage for a factory worker for example is about $70.  So the care advised by the hospital is beyond what many could afford.

We will make more information available as we become aware of it.
