The Children

The Burmese children are delightful.  Among much poverty the children still smile and play and enjoy life. Here are the stories of some of them.

Ei Shwe Zin and her little sister Hanna

These two little girls were left abandoned on the side of the road and were brought to the orphanage by neighbours.  Every effort was made to find their parents but it was unsuccessful.

E Shwe Sin is the elder child (on the right).  When they were brought to the orphanage they were so young that E Shue Sin didn't know her little sister's name. So the orphanage named her Hanna.

They now have a wonderful home at the orphanage and are very settled.  Their parents remain unknown.

Christina and Kristy

Christina (in the green dress) is from the Karen tribe but this has not been told to her.

The Karen people are among the most repressed people in Burma.  So it is safer for Christina if her ethnic heritage remains unknown to her.

Christina's mother died giving birth to her.  Her father was killed by a bomb. Her Burmese name is No No.

Kristy (in the blue shirt) is one of the older children at the orphanage.  She was born in Chin state. Her father is deceased but her mother is still alive.

When she was young she was very ill and almost died.  As a result of that she is now studying to be a doctor - something that is very difficult for women to achieve in Myanmar.

Listen to her story below.
